WHY DOES CHRISTIANITY HAVE SO MANY RULES?
Christianity is not a religion of rules and regulations. Jesus said He came to give us an abundant life. If we’re warned to stay away from something it’s because He knows the dangers. We only care about the immediate fulfillment of our desires but God, like any good father, warns us of things that can hurt us and those around us.
Jesus summed up the principles on how to live your life this way: On treating others He told us to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” On treating ourselves He said that "if your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you." Meaning that if something causes you to sin, avoid it.
Now you may do whatever you want, but before you tear down a fence pause long enough to find out why it was put up in the first place. There are spiritual, physical, emotional and social consequences when we sin.
We're told to avoid certain things not because Christianity is about a set of rules but because if we stay away from them the quality of our lives will be better and we will have a closer relationship with God.
